Rock Steady Boxing celebrating 1 year of being at the YMCA

Rock Steady Boxing is proving beneficial for people in the Northland who have Parkinson's.

For one year now, Rock Steady Boxing has been giving people in the Duluth area with Parkinson’s a chance to grow stronger.

It’s lead by certified coaches, and focuses on things like balance and posture and breathing.

Rock Steady got its start in 2006 in Indianapolis, after a man named Scott Newman got the diagnosis when he was 40-years-old.

Now, coaches are helping people all over the country.

John Miller told us, “I like coming because my tremor has really improved. I used to have a pretty good shake. That’s gone away. I can do push-ups. I can do all kinds of things that I could never do before, even when I was younger. So, it teaches all kinds of things, basically, even how to fall, because Parkinson’s people do fall a lot. And we work on balance issues,” he said.

The group meets on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Downtown Duluth YMCA.
