50 cadets from the Air Force ROTC are taking turns standing guard at UMD on Veterans Day.
They take 30 minute shifts, and started at midnight.
Cadets from UMD, St. Scholastica, and UWS are all taking part.
Lt. Colonel Jesse Peterson explained, “They really do it for two reasons. First of all is to remind our students that are going to be future officers in the Air Force of the legacy of service that they’re about to join, give them an opportunity to kind of reflect on what that service means. And then the other reason we do this a reminder to the community, of all of our veterans that came before us and the sacrifices they’ve made for our freedoms. “
They stand silently, without speaking.
