Drop off day at the Duluth Salvation Army continues to be a big deal for the family and friends of Ryan Ewald.
They collect toys for kids, in his honor. This year, it was $10,000 worth. “It’s great to see the support, because we know Ryan would have liked to see that,” shared his friend, Sr. Master Sgt. Frank Talarico.
Ewald was a Tech Sgt. with the 148th Fighter Wing, who died in an ATV crash in 2013.
Ewald had started collecting money for bikes and toys when he was still alive. Now, his loved ones carry on.
On Monday, his daughters, Kayla and Emma, and his wife, Amy, were also on hand and brought toys in the building. So were his parents.
Kayla, who is in 9th grade, said, “It makes me feel good that we’re continuing the tradition on.”
Her sister, Emma, added, “There’s always a lot of toys.”
Distribution day for the toys and food starts on Tuesday.
