Salaam Witherspoon announces candidacy for Duluth City Council District Four

Saturday, Salaam Witherspoon announced her candidacy for the Duluth City Council District Four Race.

Witherspoon made her announcement at Caddy’s in Lincoln Park and says she aims to “Heal communities, teach them, give them tools, learn that that city electives are there to serve them. That is their duty to serve them.”

“And hopefully help them learn how to regain power. If they learn how to work the system, not even work it, but learn that the system was built for them… That’s my passion. That’s really why I’m doing it”, says Salaam.

Currently, Salaam Witherspoon works as a community outreach specialist with wealth entrepreneurship economic sustainability.

She also mentions that her experience with homelessness has fueled her understanding of the struggle of people in her community.
