A major renovation and expansion for Sammy’s in Hibbing has the town buzzing.

Now known as Sammy’s Pizza and Tavern, it features a full bar space, a revamp of the original seating area, new kitchen, and expanded banquet room.

The owners purchased the vacant building next door to make this happen. It used to be a cosmetology school.

Brita Barratto said it’s been so exciting seeing the reaction. “We’ve been seeing new faces, and familiar faces. The support from the community has been tremendous.” She told us the signature drinks are a big hit.

Mike Jerulle added, “I’m very happy with the way it turned out. We have an all-class reunion this summer, and it will be good to see old friends.”

The Sammy’s Pizza empire was born in Hibbing in 1954, when Sam and Louise Perrella opened the doors there.

They hope to host Louise at the new space soon.
