“Santa Paws” is bringing holiday cheer to pets in Douglas County
The Humane Society of Douglas County (HSDC) held their annual “Santa Paws” fundraiser at Campbell Lumber and Supply. Families and their pets could get their holiday photos taken, but also make a donation to help pets in need this winter.
Cheri Fitch is the HSDC Fundraising and Events Coordinator. She says Santa Paws has been going on for a little over 30 years.
“Santa Paws is an opportunity for the community members to bring in their whole family and by that I mean your pets included,” Fitch said. “You’d come get your picture taken on a beautiful backdrop by a professional photographer. Then you have access to those pictures to use however you’d like.”
The holiday photos are free, but Cheri says donations of any kind are always needed this time of year, to help cover medical costs for pets.
“We asked for a monetary donation, because it is a fundraiser for our shelter pets. That donation is any dollar amount that you can afford,” Fitch said. “We just love for people to come out and bring any pet you wish. So I know when we say pets, people think cats and dogs, but we have had pigs. We’ve had ferrets, we’ve had chickens, we’ve had a horse. Any pet that is your family member, we encourage you to bring.”
