Sarah Mikesell to run for Duluth School Board
Sarah Mikesell, a local nurse and community organizer announced her candidacy for the Duluth School Board – District 2 seat with a kickoff event on Thursday. The event took place at Hoops Brewing with Mikesell saying that she believes that strong public schools are the heart of the community.
“I am ready to work for our students and staff in order to help Duluth Public Schools better fulfill its mission of working to inspire every student to achieve their potential and preparing students to lead productive, fulfilling lives as citizens of Duluth and the wider world. Together, we can be sure our schools provide effective, equitable and high quality education for all of our learners”, says Mikesell.
As an involved parent of two children in Duluth Public Schools, Mikesell says she has a vested interest in positively moving the District forward. She says that career as a nurse in various settings provides her with skills of critical thinking and advanced training in quality improvement. As a dedicated advocate for safety, Mikesell has demonstrated the ability to speak up for change, as well as work behind the scenes to bring people together around issues that affect local families and the rest of the community.
Current District 2 School Board Member, David Kirby, is an early supporter of Mikesell’s candidacy.
