In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Essentia Health is hosting Melanoma Monday as an opportunity for the community to get free skin cancer screenings on Monday May, 13th. Screenings will happening from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Duluth Family Medicine Clinic. Call (218) 723-1112 to make an appointment.

Melanoma is very treatable when caught early. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, about 9,500 people are diagnosed with the disease every day. People should check themselves regularly for signs of skin cancer. Problematic moles include ones that are asymmetrical, irregular or poorly defined borders, varying colors, larger than six millimeters in diameter, and regular changes in size, shape, or color. If people see any of these signs, it is recommended that they schedule a melanoma screening.
