Update: Pilot of ultralight aircraft rescued, officials said he’s cold but not seriously hurt

Rescue teams have brought out the pilot of an ultralight aircraft that crashed in a swampy area near Eveleth. He is cold, but no trauma, according to officials, and is on the way to Essentia Health Virginia.

Emergency response staged at the Ely Lake airport. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m.

The Fayal Township Fire Chief says the pilot is a Fayal Township resident who has a hanger at the Eveleth-Virginia Airport, where he left from. Chief Steve Shykes said the crash site is in the middle of a swamp and it was difficult to get to.

Authorities are with the pilot on site, and additional rescue personnel are on there way. The area is heavily wooded, making it difficult to get to the scene.
