London Road reopens after dump truck hit utility pole; Crews continue to restore power
London Road reopened to traffic at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday after a dump truck hit a power line just after 8:00 a.m. causing a transformer to go out. Minnesota Power continues to work on the power outages, saying it expects to have power back on within the next thirty minutes.
Original Story: According to the Duluth Police Department, at roughly 8:15 a.m., a dump truck hit a power line and caused a transformer to go out in the area of 18th Avenue East and London Road. London Road had been closed between 17th East and 19th East following the incident.
As of last update at 10:00 a.m., Minnesota Power is reporting outages for over 1,000 customers. It is unknown as to how long the power outages will remain. Minnesota Power does have crews on the scene working to restore the power.
The Duluth Police Department is reporting stop lights that are not working at 21st Avenue East and 2nd Street.
Drivers in the area are urged to drive with caution and be mindful of their surroundings while crews are on the scene.
