Sue Vrooman loved animals. She never made it to the Storm Shelter Sled Dogs Sanctuary and Rescue in Iron River. But now, she’s helping those pups live a better life.

Her beloved collection of Barbies and ornaments are up for sale, and the proceeds will benefit the shelter.

Kevin and Penny Nelson run the rescue, and are so thankful.

“We have a lot of elderly dogs, and special needs dogs. We go through a lot of medications and supplements,” Penny shared.

“We basically started crying when we heard about the donation. It came out of the blue. That was really special to us and really meant a lot,” Kevin added.

Sue died in May after a battle with a brain tumor. But her husband, Bruce, wanted to make sure her Barbies and Christmas collectibles found a good home, and benefited a good cause.

Bruce told us, “To know that this collection Sue had, is going to do good for deserving animals, they are such sweet animals. They deserve a good life.”

A friend of the Nelsons, Julie Ann Flones, did research about the dolls and put them all on Facebook. She told us sales are already doing well.
