Sheriff’s Office: Bomb threat to Grand Marais Pride event not credible, case “closed”

The Cook Country Sheriff’s office released a statement Tuesday, June 18 that states that they have completed their investigation into a bomb threat made against a Grand Marais Pride event on Saturday and determined that the threat came from a Russian email and that it may have been bot generated.

“We have closed the investigation due to the geographical barrier, and the fact that nothing suspicious was located during our search.,” explained Sheriff Pat Eliasan. “Although the case will remain in a ‘closed’ status, any new information will be taken in and investigated for authenticity.”

The email the threat came from, “Iryna.melin.06”, has generated multiple similar threats across the country according to the FBI.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office investigated the bomb threat that was reported Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately upon receiving the call and conducted a precautionary sweep which yielded negative results.
