The Shiway and Sadie Memorial fundraiser is helping to memorialize the Barry family and improve Chester Park. The fundraising efforts are from friends and family of the Barry family along with other members of the community. More than $5,000 have been raised so far for their foal of $22,000.
The Barry family sadly passed away last year from gun violence. However, the Shiway and Sadie Memorial foundation held a silent auction, bake sale and pasta dinner fundraiser to keep their spirits alive.
Britnee Jenson, a volunteer of the Shiway and Sadie Memorial Foundation talked more about their mission. “We’re hoping to add on accessible swing some paths, some new playground equipment, like spinning elements, and a memorial bench, because the family’s buried in Alaska.” Jenson said. “We don’t really have anything here. So it was really important for our homeschool community to have something to go visit them.”
Here are the details of the Shiway and Sadie Memorial Foundation’s plans to for the Chester Park playground. Replacement of the spinner element in the playground, A wheelchair-accessible crushed stone path from accessible parking spaces to the playground. An adjoining memorial bench on a permanent cement footing with memorial signage wording and style to be determined. Removal and replacement of non-function fall zone safety material. Replacement of edging around the playground. Upgrade of one swing bay to include an accessible swing with connecting accessible trail.
These installations will most likely happen in July of this year. For more information about the Shiway and Sadie Memorial fundraiser you can look here. For more information about the Barry family you can look here.
