The CSM John S. Werner Memorial 5K Run-Walk is coming up in two months.

Race Director Ron Hein is sending out letters to last year’s participants, and asking them each to recruit another runner. “We’re hoping to hit the 100 mark,” he said.

After a long career in the Army, including serving in the Vietnam War and in Afghanistan, Werner remained committed to the mission of St. Louis County Historical Society and to Northland veterans. He was steadfast in his work to preserve the storied lineage of veterans from our area, so that their memories remain a lasting part of the fabric of this community.

Proceeds from the 5K will benefit the programs of SLCHS’s Veterans Memorial Hall, which he cared so deeply about, including the Society’s Annual Remembrance Dinner, the Mike Colalillo Scholarship, VMH’s “History in a Pint” programs, Veterans Day Commemorations, and improvements to Medal of Honor Row at the St. Louis County Depot.

Start time is 9AM with a short ceremony prior at The Other Place Bar & Grill, 3930 East Calvary Rd, Duluth. The entry fee is $35
