Sixth Avenue East resurfacing project meeting shows off current plans
The City of Duluth hosted a public meeting to show off their most up to date plans for the Sixth Avenue East resurfacing project on Thursday January 30th.
The project will resurface and reconfigure the lanes in the area of Sixth Avenue East between East Second Street and Mesaba Avenue.
According to the City of Duluth, major changes include:
- The roadway will go from four to three lanes, including a center turn lane.
- A center median island between Fifth and Ninth Streets.
- Overlay of asphalt on existing concrete.
- ADA-compliant pedestrian upgrades.
They’ve hosted multiple public meetings on the project and the plan is taking the concerns they’ve heard about into account, from safety to traffic.
“This is actually our fourth event to discuss this project,” said Senior Transportation Planner for the City of Duluth James Gittembier. “The feedback’s been really great. A lot of interest in this corridor, a lot of comments about it.”
The construction is set to begin in the summer of 2025. You can learn more about the project here.
