Ski Swap raises money for Team Duluth
The Team Duluth Ski and Snowboard Swap is back, with a wide variety of gear and plenty of deals.
“You can get boots, skis, poles for, like, less than 400, sometimes less than 300, depending upon what you’re looking for. And then snowboards, you know, you can get kitted out for about the same or a little bit more,” said Team Duluth Ski and Snowboard Swap Chair Laura Witrak.
Hosted at the Lower Grand Avenue Chalet of Spirit Mountain, the Ski Swap offers the chance for people to sell old gear, shoppers to get great deals, and everyone to help Team Duluth raise money for kids to ski.
“It’s so much fun. That’s what’s so cool about this team is that you meet the parents, like, as another parent to parent, you meet these other parents. The kids are on the hill with their friends three to four times a week,” said Witrak. “The great thing about the team too is that, as a parent, you want to feel confident that your kids can go down the hill and they’ll be safe and they know their rules and they can be respectful, and that’s what the team teaches.”
Team Duluth has over a hundred participants with varying skill levels. Proceeds from the Ski Swap go toward the club’s operating budget, coaching salaries, team expenses, and hill fees. It is the organization’s biggest fundraiser.
“I like seeing all of my ski friends because sometimes they go to different schools and it’s fun to see them over the winter, and it’s fun to just go out there and start skiing and ski racing is really fun too,” said Emmi, age 10.
The Ski Swap will continue this weekend. The hours are 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday and 10 am to noon on Sunday.
