On Saturday, a skier died from injuries sustained at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Gilbert Police Chief Ty Techar says Christian Richard Hufnagle, 21, of International Falls was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

According to earlier reports, the Gilbert Police Department responded to Giants Ridge Ski Resort on a report of an injured skier. The Giants Ridge Ski Patrol were able to bring Hufnagle down the hillside.

The injured skier was transported by Biwabik Ambulance to Essentia Health-Northern Pines in Aurora, where medical staff attempted life-saving measures. Hufnagle died from his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation and the Giants Ridge Ski Patrol is assisting the Gilbert Police Department.
