Special election date announced for Senate District 6

Governor Tim Walz has announced the date for a special election to fill the Senate District 6 vacancy.

The special election is set for Tuesday, April 29. If necessary, a special primary election will be held two weeks prior on Tuesday, April 15.

Candidates have until April 1 to file their intent to run. Should someone choose to withdraw their candidacy, they have until April 2.

Senate District 6 covers Cass, Crow Wing, and Itasca Counties.

Four people have already announced their candidacy. Keri Heintzman, Jennifer Carnahan, and Dr. John Howe are running as Republicans. Emily LeClaire is running as the DFL candidate.
