Spirit Mountain opens for its 50th anniversary season
On Friday, Spirit Mountain opened their slopes once more for the 2024 season, celebrating 50 years of service.
Jon Regenold, director of resort services at Spirit Mountain, shared his excitement for the special season.
“Celebrating 50 years in Duluth at Spirit Mountain is so fun. The joy and smiles and laughter and just excitement that comes from being outside in the winter is so amazing. So, 50 years. That’s one thing to celebrate for sure,” said Regenold.
Spirit Mountain opened its early season on November 30th and will open full time on December 13th.
“So, what we do in the early season is we have early season hours where we open up for the weekend and then we focus on our snowmaking and hill operation prep during the week. So, it’s really crucial to just make sure that we can make enough snow when we’re ready to make snow, gearing up for the full-time hours,” said Regenold.
Even with the early season hours, skiers and snowboarders, like friends Cadence, Ruby and Gia, flocked to Spirit Mountain for another year of wintertime fun.
“There’s so many, like, trails that’s, like, really fun to, like, ski with friends. Like, I meet so many friends being here,” said Cadence.
“Just the experience of being able to go snowboarding with your friends is super fun in the winter,” said Gia.
And at Spirit Mountain, there is fun to be had for everyone – no matter their age or skill level.
“Come on down, it’s lots of fun. Don’t be scared to do any tricks. It’s just snow. It won’t hurt,” said snowboarder Jaxson Acker.
