St. Louis County declares State of Local Disaster

The St. Louis County Board of Commissioners held an emergency meeting Thursday morning, June 20, where they voted to declare a State of Local Disaster. The vote was unanimous.

The emergency meeting was called following heavy rainfall that caused damage throughout the county earlier in the week.

“We have public works garages throughout the county and we have a number of them in rural Minnesota and we’re able to get out and act quickly with responses like this,” explained Commissioner Paul McDonald.

The board said they were told by Governor Tim Walz to get their paperwork in as soon as possible in order to expedite the receipt of the emergency funds.

Board members also started that they have emergency volunteers currently going door to door in communities like Cook to check on the elderly and those in need.
