St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office swear in six new sheriff deputies
St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office have officially sworn in six new sheriff deputies along with 14 correctional officers. Community members, along with friends and family members showed their support for newly sworn in law enforcement officers.
St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsay says these men and women leave a meaningful impact on residents living in northeastern Minnesota.
“We’ve hired a lot of sworn deputies, hired a lot of correction officers. It was a big day for the Sheriff’s Office. When you think about the responsibility of our office, you’ve got everything from 911 to corrections, to law enforcement, to emergency management. It covers a breadth of areas,” Sheriff Ramsay said. “So, the new staff joining us today will be taking care of all those things, and really are the caretakers of the county. Any work in public safety is noble, because you care take for the people of this county. If you want to give back to your community and truly make a difference, consider looking at the many opportunities we have.”
One of the newly sworn sheriff deputies is Joseph Lorenzi. He’s been in law enforcement for the past six years working in Verndale and Bemidji. However he wanted to come back home in Duluth to work for St. Louis County’s Sheriff Office.
“I always had a dream of giving in law enforcement and a goal. Kind of got sidetracked a few times. So, for those who are looking to get into a career, it’s not easy,” Lorenzi said. “You’re going to go through some adversity that just stick to it. You know, anything worth obtaining, you’re going to go through some stuff. So, just keep working at it.”
Sheriff Deputy Lorenzi is already selected to be a defensive tactics instructor for St. Louis County. Although he says becoming a deputy wouldn’t have been possible without the loving support of his family.
“I definitely want to thank my wife and family. I want to thank my mom. She’s been very influential for just throughout my whole life of getting us here,” Lorenzi said. “I want to thank the sheriff and all the command staff and everyone who’s been a part of getting me here. All my trainers and everything else. So, I’m very grateful for all the people that have put in for me to get to this moment.”
