St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam using main number

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, residents in the area are being targeted by an increase of scam calls.

They say scammers have cloned the main office line of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, 218-726-2340, and are falsely claiming that recipients have missed a court date, resulting in a warrant for their arrest. The scammers then ask for payment via a third-party app to clear the warrant.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone that law enforcement will never contact you to request payment over the phone. If you receive one of these calls, do not provide any payment information, whether by cash, credit card, check, or gift card.

If you have any questions regarding the payment of fines, please reach out directly to Court Administration.

If you receive one of these scam calls and wish to make a police report, you are asked to dial 911 immediately.
