Stores throughout the Northland busy with returns and exchanges

Stores throughout the Northland are busy dealing with customers asking for returns and exchanges with holiday gifts. Nearly one-in-three US adults, plan to make a gift return or exchange, according to a study by Civic Science. The study also says that at least 30% of holiday shoppers plan to return at least one item.

While many department store throughout the nation are used to gift returns or exchanges what about local companies? Tom Sega, the President/CEO of Duluth Pack says the day after Christmas is the busiest day for gift exchanges.

“Today is a lot about exchanges and returns. We’re very fortunate because we don’t get a lot of returns, people have invested in high quality products,” Sega said. “Everything we carry in the store here, whether it’s our bags or all of the other brands we carry. So it’s mostly colors, size, things like that on exchanges. Today it’s been in waves coming all day.”

Stores around the Northland were closed on Christmas day, but sometime stores have gift exchanges instead of returns. This helps stores retain the profit and the customer can find a different satisfactory product.

“There’s a lot of shoppers out there. We have great deals going on and people got their Christmas money. They’re saying, ‘I’m ready. I want to get what I actually wanted,’ when we have final sales, we don’t allow returns,” Sega said. “At that point, it’s just clearance. We’re trying to get something out, and it’s a clothing run where we’re down to one or two sizes or colors. We’re just trying to purge it out of the system. So our loss is the customer’s gain on getting a really, really good deal.”

Duluth Pack is continuing their holiday sale where some items are 50% percent off. Unlike other clothes and packs in the store, you cannot return those sale items. Duluth Pack will also shortly start selling their spring and summer items.
