Students get out of the classroom and into the community at Twin Ports College Connect

Students gathered at UMD's Kirby Plaza to meet with organizations from around the Northland at Twin Ports College Connect.

Students gathered at UMD’s Kirby Plaza to meet with organizations from around the Northland at Twin Ports College Connect on Tuesday January 28th.

From to the Superior Hiking Trail to the Red Cross over 20 organizations from around the Northland came to UMD to get students out of the classroom and into the community with volunteer opportunities.

“These are experiences that you can’t get in a classroom,” said Zoey Leege, the Community engagement coordinator at head of lakes United Way. “It’s real-life experiences in the community serving the public.”

The event encouraged students to take the first step towards volunteering.

“I think this opens a very good opportunity for people to just connect one-on-one and ask the questions they wanted to ask,” said Kidest Seabhatleabe a student and volunteer at the Red Cross.
