Students tour new Nashwauk-Keewatin school and wellness center
A special day for the Spartans on Tuesday, as students from all the grades had the chance to check out their new school.
ICS is the contractor building the project, and showed the groups around. Jesse Larcom is the site supervisor, and attended Nashwauk-Keewatin himself. His kids also attend.
Wearing hard hats and safety vests, kids got excited about the new space, which will include learning neighborhoods and collaboration spaces.
The gym is a big highlight, of course. Right now, it’s storing materials.
About 40-50 people are working on site, on any given day.
They just started work on an expanded shops area.
Voters approved the project in 2022. Construction began in 2023. U.S. Steel donated the land needed. Iron Range Resources has provided significant funding as well.
There will also be a wellness center with a separate entrance that the community can use.
ICS said the building should be done by the end of June, and the staff can spend the summer moving over.
Nashwauk-Keewatin has some of the oldest school buildings in the state.
