Superior Fire Department battles two fires Thursday
The Superior Fire Department responded to two separate structure fires on Thursday, July 26th.
The first fire was reported at 11:26 p.m. at 5401 Oakes Ave. Fire crews arrived to find a large commercial structure with heavy fire visible. The significant volume of fire quickly compromised the building’s structural integrity, causing the roof to collapse and preventing crews from initiating an interior fire attack. Firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the blaze from the exterior using the Tower Ladder and multiple hand lines, successfully keeping the fire confined to the building of origin.
Fire crews stayed on the scene until 3:21 a.m. The structure is reported to be a total loss. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Assisting agencies included Douglas County Dispatch, Mayo Ambulance, Superior Water, Light, and Power, and the Superior Police Department.
Earlier the same day, at 3:12 p.m., the Superior Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 1817 Oakes Ave. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and flames coming from a first-floor window. Neighbors informed firefighters that multiple dogs were inside the residence. Crews quickly advanced a hoseline into the home, extinguished the fire, and rescued all the dogs safefully.
There were no injuries were also reported in this fire. The fire damage was confined to the area of origin.
The cause of this fire is also under investigation.
Assisting agencies included Douglas County Dispatch, Mayo Ambulance, Superior Water, Light, and Power, and the Superior Police Department.
