Superior man charged following weekend homicide
Charges have been filed in connection with a homicide that occurred on Sunday evening, October 6, in Superior. Aaron Donald Johnson has been charged with the following offenses: 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide, Burglary-Armed with Dangerous Weapon, and 1st-Degree Reckless Endangerment.
As per the Superior police department, multiple officers responded to the 2400 block of Ogden Avenue around 9:20 pm on October 6 after the report of a female victim that her ex-boyfriend was knocking on her garage and attempting to gain entry.
“As officers responded, they heard multiple gunshots,” explaine Lt. Michelle Pope with the Superior Police Department. “Upon approaching the garage from the alley, the female victim could be heard crying and was seen leaning over the male victim laying on the floor and not moving. Officers identified several gunshot wounds on the man whose condition was beyond lifesaving measures.”
Authorities state that Johnson was the female victim’s ex-boyfriend.
Pope states that Johnson fled the scene before officers were able to make contact. . The Superior Police Department’s Emergency Response Team, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office, located Johnson at his family cabin in Iron River, Wisconsin where he was arrested without incident.
“Several search warrants were executed and evidence was located at the scene of the incident, inside the suspect’s vehicle, at his residence and the Iron River cabin,” said Pope. “In addition, Johnson made statements to witnesses in which he admitted to shooting the male victim.”
Johnson’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 16th at 4:00 pm.
