Superior School Board votes to add referendum to November ballot
The School District of Superior’s School Board voted to add a new referendum to November’s general election ballot. The board voted 5-0 at a meeting Monday evening.
The referendum will ask Superior residents whether they will pay more in property taxes to help fund the school district over the next five years.
This request comes after the School District of Superior has had to make budget cuts over the past few years.
According to District Administrator Dr. Amy Starzecki, loss of federal funds from the pandemic, declining enrollment and an increase of inflationary expenses all led up to the request for the referendum.
“The question we are asking is whether or not our community wants to invest in our public education here in Superior in order to keep our classes low and our programs intact”, said Starzecki. “Our school board and our district administrators have been very intentional about getting community input. The majority of those surveyed this spring and summer were supportive of the school district moving forward with some sort of referendum consideration.”
Starzecki also stated that for the 2024-25 school year, they have already made around $4.5 million dollars in budget reductions.
