On Small Business Saturday, businesses across Duluth opened their doors and arms to those beginning their 2024 holiday shopping.

Over thirty vendors set up shop at Warrior Brewing – a group owner Ben Anderson is happy to show his support to.

“We’re you know pretty small business also. So, it’s kind of if there’s any way of you know with sticking to our mission is you know giving back to yes military first responder local non-profits, but any kind of small business just like us,” said Anderson.

The collaboration helps businesses find success and share in that success with others.

“I think it’s kind of a you know shared you know advertising if they do well, we do well; if we do well, they’ll do well. So, I think that’s kind of what small business is really all about,” said Anderson.

Across town, the American Indian Community Housing Organization (AICHO) highlighted Indigenous small businesses from across the country.

James Harvin, born in New York, now lives in the Twin Cities with his girlfriend, where they are combining their artistic efforts to share their work with the world.

“We want to bring light to the handy work that we’re doing, right? We can get bogged down and just like downcast from the bigger organizations and the bigger corporations that have so much to flood the market with. But we create niche things that is very intentional. We don’t have big industries creating our artwork. We’re screen printing and hand screen printing in ourselves. We’re making sure that we have, you know, low impact to the environment with upcycling and things,” said Harvin.

The process of creating and selling their art is not only a financial one – but a passion that Harvin wants his customers to enjoy along with him.

“It does help us financially. Like, you know, if we didn’t sell our art, you know, we could be in a hole sometimes, but because we have this opportunity and people love it and people can kind of cherish something that was made by my hands, it feels very impactful to me and to the client,” said Harvin.

And as Small Business Saturday comes to a close, shops at Warrior Brewing and AICHO pack up with newfound customers and support.
