FIRST TRY! Teeb Con’s massive success
From a backyard of 80 people to a jam-packed convention over the span of a weekend. Teeb con has wrapped up its final day of its first ever convention.
Teeb con hits off with a huge success, as it pulled in over 2500 tickets sold on just the weekend. People from all over the country and the northland came to Duluth in celebration and community. Despite being planned for only a half of year, many of the previous convention goers, complimented the success.
“Yeah. And the con’s been pretty nice for a first-year con. I feel like they did really well. I think events got a pretty bright future out of it.” Voice actor Jarrod Greene, shared. As local artists and vendors filled the DECC with multiple activities spanning the two days.
Voices Cheer for Community
A local business and exhibitor, Dice Mugs, shared with us about how they enjoyed having a convention closer to home.
“We really love to have a community of Duluth have this service finally for this group of people that people from Northern Minnesota Iron Range can come to a show that is way closer to home and you know, serving this underserved community.”
Many celebrities in entertainment industry came to show their support and meet fans of their work. From comic artists around the area to actors who play the voices of characters in the shows people love. Jarrod Greene continued.
“I’m not used to thinking of myself as someone who, you know, strangers are going to be like, “Oh, I want to go meet that guy.” And so, it’s sort of an interesting shift in perspective, being one of the people come- here to see.”
Giving Back
As most of the proceeds of the event are given to local charities in support of kids and families.
- MN Masonic Children’s Clinic for Communication Disorders
- MNSWCA.org Mental Wellness Scholarship Fund
- Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation
Famous actors from Star Wars, Martin Klebba and Leilani Shiu, expressed their support in the convention’s focus on giving back.
“Especially this one, you guys are raising money. And like, it’s– For Children’s Hospital, and I think that’s great. Especially me being in Star Wars. I’m very involved. So, I love it, you know, to raise money. And especially for the children. It means a lot.
And then, as Martin and I are little, we like to give back. So, we know how it is growing up, being little. You know, how our parents dealt with medical, or, you know, just putting a speech for different things. And so, we know how that side is. So, for me, for Martin and I to give back, we love doing this. Right, Martin? Yes.”
Many of the organizers of the event look hopeful towards the future, as they hope to continue this convention for years to come. With a rebrand and plans moving forward for next year, as Teeb Con will be officially Excalibur Con in 2025. Madeleine Morris, a fellow voice actor, expressed how it is not only the community that wishes for Teeb con to continue.
“I have been to a handful of brand new first year shows. Everything here is going incredibly right. It will be back, and with any luck, so will I.”
