Teenage sweethearts bury a time capsule, and dig it up on their wedding anniversary

Time capsule gives couple chance to relive falling in love

A special anniversary date meant digging up a time capsule for an Iron Range couple.

Megan and Jon Novak just celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary on July 9th. And they did so in a unique way.

They went out on Sabin Lake, to a secret island, and dug up a time capsule they had buried back in 2012.

“We had our first kiss in that area,” Megan shared.

Inside, letters they had written to each other, even one about their first date, plus pictures, a deck of cards, and some ping pong paddles. There’s also a Mesabi Daily News printed on January 10th, 2012, to mark the date.

Finding that capsule, a really great way to go down memory lane again, to where it all began. “This was really special for me,” Jon told us. “It was nice to have some of those moments rekindled.”

They had planned on going back in 10 years, even if they had broken up. Good thing they didn’t!

The Novaks hope this story helps others reflect on their relationships, appreciate how they’ve grown, and continue to invest in them. And maybe, even bury a time capsule of your own!
