Temporary closure of section of Third Street in Duluth begins August 8

Contractors will close the section of Third Street in Duluth between Fifth Avenue East and Fourth Avenue East on Thursday, August 8 and Friday, August 9, 2024 to install fencing at the St. Mary’s Hospital site according to Kelli Latuska, the Public Information Officer with the City of Duluth.

The closure will begin at 6:00 am on August 8 and traffic will be detoured around the block to the north, using Fifth Avenue East, to Fourth Street, to Fourth Avenue East.

“Drivers are advised that this road is already under construction due to on-going repaving efforts and are advised to seek alternate routes when practical during this closure,” said Latuska. “Significant traffic congestion is expected during this time. Expect delays.”

Access to the Essentia clinic will be open beginning at 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning, August 8. There may be no access to the clinic building from Third Street prior to that time.

The road is expected to be reopened to limited traffic the Friday afternoon, August 9.
