The Minnesota Fishing Opener officially began May 13th, and plenty of anglers were out on the waters. Comparing the Wisconsin Fishing Opener from last weekend it was a bit cold and foggy. However, this weekend had some sunshine with some windy weather. However, many residents and out of town visitors had some great catches before getting ready for Mother’s Day.
Josh Brown, a band member from Indecent Proposal, talked more about how the Minnesota Fishing Opener was going. “I was super looking forward to this weekend and so excited to be out here, excited that there’s even room out here.” Brown said. “I was hoping for bass when we got over here cause I saw a bunch of wood in the water. Nothing for me yet.”
Brown also said that plenty of people are planning on fishing tonight at Island Lake. “it’s going to be packed right here. Yeah. I think the shore is going to be lined for sure. Absolutely. It’s hard to see your bobber if it gets out there and it’s doing this because the wind in the waves.”
Several other anglers fishing near Island Lake talked more about how its been difficult trying to catch Walleye. The Minnesota Fishing Opener has been rough trying to catch Walleye because they’re still spawning. However, there have been plenty of people catching Northern Pikes and Smallmouth Bass.
