Threats cause Bemidji Schools to close for the day
According to the Bemidji Police Department, Beltrami County received several text-to-911 messages on Tuesday evening that involved a threat to a Bemidji area school and a specific staff member. Bemidji Police were not initially able to identify a suspect or where the messages were coming from. As a result, the police department recommended that area schools close for the day.
At around 11 p.m. Tuesday night, police and detectives were able to identify the phone number and traced the messages back to a house in Bemidji. Officers went to the traced location and arrested a young man for Felony Terroristic Threats.
Bemidji Police Officers and Detectives worked extensively throughout the night and into the early morning hours to ensure the safety of students and staff members of all Bemidji Schools.
The Bemidji Police Department, ISD 31 Staff, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension all worked together throughout this investigation.
