Three early morning fires destroy multiple structures in Sawyer County

Authorities ask for information related to three structure fires in Sawyer County.

A string of fires is being investigated in Sawyer County.

Three separate fires in the early morning hours Monday destroyed two unoccupied homes and damaged the Birchwood American Legion post in the town of Edgewater, Wisconsin.

Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek says between the hours of 4:00 am and 6:00 am, the Sawyer County Communication Center received three 911 calls reporting structure fires located in the southern area of the county.

Sawyer County authorities investigate a string of structure fires

Two homes and the Birchwood American Legion Post went up in flames early Monday morning.

At 4:02 am, a structure fire was reported on Weirgor Road in the Town of Radisson. The residence was currently under new construction and was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The structure was deemed a total loss.

Just minutes later, at 4:10 am, a second fire was reported at a residence on Gueldners Lane in the Town of Meteor. That residence was also unoccupied and considered a total loss.

The third fire was reported at 6:02 am, at the Birchwood Americal Legion Post on County Highway F in the town of Edgewater. The business was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation is currently investigating the cause of the fires and are asking for the publics assistance.
