Three individuals sentenced for child neglect and endangerment
Three individuals living on the Red Lake Indian Reservation are sentenced for felony child neglect and felony child endangerment. This announcement is from United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, between Feb. 2022 and Jan. 2023. Robin John Roy, 55, Nicole Robyn Roy, 29, and Harrison Edwin Dudley Sr., 36, are sentenced for the felony child neglect and endangerment.
The three individuals willfully deprived minor victims of necessary food, health care, and supervision. This is despite the three individuals being capable to make the necessary provisions. Resulting in substantial harm to minor victims’ physical, mental, and emotional health, according to the court documents and presented evidence at trail.
One of the minor victims suffered from severe anemia as a result of malnourishment, this is according to U.S. Department of Justice.
Despite repeat efforts by health care providers to intervene in the child’s condition, the child nearly died. This is a result of the defendants’ collective failure to provide needed care according to court documents and evidence presented at trial. Both children suffered from prolonged lice infestations that progressed to life-threatening scalp infections.
U.S. District Judge Nancy E. Brasel, found all three defendants guilty of felony child neglect. Nicole Roy and Dudley were found guilty of felony child endangerment. All three defendants were sentenced on September 5, 2024, by Judge Brasel.
Robin Roy received 24 months of probation, Nicole Roy received 12 months and a day in prison followed by three years of supervised release, and Dudley received four months in prison. This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI.
