Touchstone Honoree: Duluth Children’s Museum accessible for even more families

Touchstone Honoree: Duluth Children’s Museum

The Duluth Children's Museum is being honored for making the attraction more accessible for families.

The Duluth Children’s Museum was founded in 1930, during the Great Depression.

“Our focus on giving back to the community goes back many, many decades,” explained Executive Director Drew Jensen.

Not everyone can afford a membership. So they have a program that provides them for free.

“Our Discovery for All program is for those who qualify for EBT and WIC. We also partner with Head Start programs through Duluth, Proctor, and Hermantown. And we’ve expanded to bring on the Steve O’Neil Apartments, and some other agencies,” Jensen added.

A grant from the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation is helping them add 100 more families into the program.

They’ve also launched a new Teen Parent Program, which is a partnership with Duluth Schools.

Sydney Erlitz told us, “My experience here has been great. I grew up going to the Children’s Museum. So it’s a pretty great experience to be able to share it with my son, Beau.”

The museum’s board wants to make sure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the space. Chair Kate Van Daele said, “It changes often. They do seasonal changes, We want to provide opportunities for families to come and learn, and for kids to be in a safe space to grow and meet other kids.”

You can see the Touchstone Celebration featuring six non-profits including the Duluth Children’s Museum on Thursday, November 14th, at 6:30pm on WDIO.
