Traffic Advisory: Gobble Gallop takes off Thursday morning in Duluth
The 19th Gobble Gallop Races presented Essentia Health gets underway Thanksgiving morning. There are three separate race categories with the fun beginning at 7:00 a.m. The Duluth Police Department wants the community to know about traffic changes due to the race events.
The first of the three races, the Gobble Giddy Up! Kids Run begins at 8:40 a.m. The Tough Turkey 1-Mile starts at 9 a.m. and the Gobble Gallop 5K at 9:30 a.m. All races will start and finish on London Road, near 12 Avenue East. The Gobble Gallop runs west on London Road to Superior Street, west on Superior Street to 5th Avenue West and then returns on the same course. Check-in for all races begins at 7:30 a.m.
The DPD says parking restrictions go into effect at 7 a.m. on London Road from 10th Avenue East to 14th Avenue East and on Superior Street from 10th Avenue East to 5th Avenue West. Vehicles parked in the no parking zones after 7 a.m. will be ticketed and towed.
- London Road will close to traffic at 7:30 a.m. from 10th Avenue East to 14th Avenue East for race setup.
- Superior Street will close to traffic at 8:45 a.m. from 5th Avenue West to 12th Avenue East for the 1-mile and 5K races.
- Eastbound Superior Street traffic will be detoured at 6th Avenue West to 2nd Street to continue east.
- Westbound traffic will be detoured at 12th Avenue East to 3rd Street to continue traveling west.
- Lake Avenue will close at Superior Street during the races.
- Access to Canal Park, Park Point, and the DECC will be from 5th Avenue West to Railroad Street and from I-35 exits at Lake Avenue and 5th Avenue West.
Duluth Police say Downtown traffic should return to normal by approximately 10:30 a.m. Drivers should continue to use caution in this area throughout the morning.
