Alcohol may have been involved in accident at 5th Ave W and Harbor Drive

One person was injured and traffic was rerouted Monday afternoon, October 14, following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 5th Avenue W and Harbor Drive near the Depot in Duluth. Multiple squads from the Duluth Police Department as well as a Duluth fire truck were on the scene.

The accident was cleared just after 5:00 p.m.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol crash report, a Ford Focus was Eastbound on 5th Avenue W when it entered the intersection with Interstate 35 southbound exchange ramps. The Ford Focus had the green light when a Dodge Grand Caravan with a red light entered the intersection from Interstate 35. The Caravan then struck the driver’s side door of the Focus.

The driver of the Focus went to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash report also states that the 66-year-old female driver of the Caravan may have been under the influence of alcohol.
