Two dead, one hurt in Burnett County crash

Two people died and another was airlifted after a single-vehicle crash in Burnett County.

According to the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office, it happened early Saturday morning at 28624 E. Bass Lake Rd. in Oakland Township. Dispatchers got a call about a vehicle crash from OnStar at 2:01 a.m.

Officers found the driver and front passenger dead at the scene. They’ve been identified as Layne W. Leitner (25) of Bloomington and Kyle R. Orloske (34) of White Bear Lake.

The surviving passenger was trapped and had to be extricated. Air Care took them to the hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. Initial reports found that the vehicle went 120 ft off the road before striking a tree. The Wisconsin State Patrol was requested for a crash reconstruction.

The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by North Memorial Ambulance, North Air Care, Webster Fire, St. Croix Tribal Police and Wisconsin State Patrol.
