Two displaced, house deemed a loss after Thursday night fire in Superior
Two Superior residents are displaced and a two-story single-family house is considered a total loss after it went up in flames Thursday night.
The Superior Fire department responded to 2422 Oakes Avenue at 6:23 p.m. on Thursday, December 12th.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire on the second floor of the home. All occupants had safely exited and were accounted for. Firefighters initially attacked the fire from inside and performed vertical ventilation, but increasing flames and safety concerns forced them to withdraw and fight the fire from outside.
Once conditions improved, crews reentered to extinguish hotspots. Firefighters cleared the scene by 11:37 p.m., leaving a fire watch in place overnight.
The home, valued at $150,000, is considered a total loss. Officials confirmed the residence had working smoke detectors.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
All three Superior Fire engines, a battalion chief, and eight callback personnel responded to the fire. They were assisted by the Superior Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, and Superior Water, Light, and Power.
