Two Harbors community provides input about new vision for waterfront at Agate Bay
The waterfront acreage at Two Harbors is a popular place for tourists and locals. Soon, the land will be owned by the city.
Jolene Brink moved here in 2020, and loves visiting this spot with her family. But she told us she felt it was kind of unfinished.
She heard about the Citizens’ Institute on Rural Design looking for communities seeking a big design challenge.
So she submitted Two Harbors, and they were selected last summer as one of eight.
Tuesday, the design team was in town again to meet with more stakeholders. They had meetings at the Tipsy Mosquito.
One of people attending was Mark Johnson, former city planner for Two Harbors. He said, “Two Harbors has a unique asset of almost a mile of shoreline. We tried getting a marina here, but the project fell apart.”
Omar Kaheem, lead designer, said, “This is our big input session. We’ll go back to the office and then present a draft plan to the city. And there will be more opportunity for feedback. Hopefully this will be a tool to move the vision of the waterfront forward.”
The mayor of Two Harbors, Lew Conner, said, “People working together on this, touching the map, this is what we need to be able to make a good decision.”
He called this process more of a half marathon, not a sprint.
There is a meeting on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the Moose Lodge. And another on Thursday from 8:30-11am at the Harbor Rail.
They are working on securing funding for implementing a plan down the road.
