Two pets die in house fire; home a total loss

A fire destroyed a house on the 5100 block of Country Road in Great Scott Township just south of Kinney, Minnesota on Wednesday. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office, crews were called on a report of a house fire just before 2 p.m.

When crews arrived, they could see smoke coming from the roof. The homeowners were contacted and all family members were accounted for, however it is believed that a cat and a rabbit died in the fire. The house is determined to be a total loss. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Pending an official investigation, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Offices says the fire was believed to be accidental.

The Kinney/Great Scott Townhip, Mountain Iron and Chisholm fire departments responded to the fire.
