Upcoming road closures, and pavement reconstruction in Duluth

There are several road closures happening in the City of Duluth, beginning on Monday, July 1st. Sundby Road will be closed off to traffic between Page Street and Miller Creek Drive.

The road closure will allow a contactor to install utilities and pavement restoration for a commercial construction project. Sundby Road will be open to local traffic from Haines Road to Miller Creek Drive. Page Street remains open at all the times.

The temporary closure of Sundby Road is also expected to last between three to four weeks. Drivers will need to detour by taking Maple Grove Road, US Highway 53 and Haines Road to avoid the road construction.

The City of Duluth is also completing their work on the upper side of Third Street. Although they need finish working on the lower side, which will also begin on Monday, July 1st.

The left lane of Third Street will be closed between 12th Ave. E and Mesaba Ave. with traffic using the newly-paved right lane. On street Parking will not be permitted during the road construction due to the narrow lanes. Other avenues may also be closed to safely complete the work within the other intersections.

The remaining work on the Third Street Reconditioning Project have several other key components. There’s still concrete pavement repairs, bituminous mill and overlay, ADA intersection improvements and pavement markings. Although the construction is expected to be completed by the end of September.
