Vehicle crashes into house in Sawyer County, four people hurt
A Town of Bass Lake family is building back after a vehicle crashed into their house Wednesday afternoon, hurting four people.
The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office says a 37-year-old Stone Lake man was driving when his vehicle left the highway, crashing into the home at a high rate of speed. They also say the driver did not stop at the intersection of State Highway 27 and Fun Valley Road and narrowly avoided a collision with other traffic there. The vehicle reportedly continued across the highway, through a yard, and into the Bass Lake home.
Three people, including two kids, were sitting on the couch at the time of the crash. The Sheriff’s Office says they had minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver also had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. The Stone Lake man was cited for Failure to Yield and Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed. The Sheriff’s Office says charges are pending for First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, Causing Injury and Criminal Damage to Property.
The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Meagan Bonney, whose family was at home during the time of the crash, says Nelson Lumber and Home donated materials to board the house and contractors helped re-support the home’s main wall. She told WDIO News, “Hayward is really one of a kind with its residents… Everyone brought food, offered to donate their time, and physical things as well.”
In her Facebook post, she wrote, “The kids are alright. By the grace and goodness of God. His hands were on my family yesterday, and I will forever hold them so much tighter.”
