Water level increases have started to slow in Gilbert
On Saturday, the Gilbert Police Department provided an update on the flooding the city and its waterways have experienced over the past five days. Several local, county, state, and federal agencies have been working to address the recent damage to infrastructure and rising water levels.
According to the Gilbert Police Department, Sabin and Wynne lakes have experienced water level increases of approximately eight feet since last Tuesday. Seven different locations now have measuring devices being checked by officers on a regular basis. The locations and the approximate observations of the rise of water from noon to 8 pm Saturday are as follows:
- Minnesota Power Substation Bridge: no change
- Sabin Lake: one inch
- Wynne Lake: one inch
- Embarrass Lake: four inches
- Cedar Island Lake: four inches
- The river between Cedar Island Lake and Esquagama Lake: four inches
- Esquagama Lake: four inches
The latest observations do show improvements- just 24 hours ago, increases of seven inches over an eight-hour period were observed in Sabin and Wynne Lakes. The Gilbert Police Department plans on updating the public at least twice per day until the water starts to consistently recede.
The public is asked to refrain from operating boats on the aforementioned lakes to minimize shoreline erosion and damage to property owners.
