We Are All Criminals gives college students a different look at criminal justice
A unique look at the criminal justice system came to the Minnesota North Eveleth campus on Wednesday.
Emily Baxter, Executive Director and Developer of We Are All Criminals, spoke to the group. She wants them to think critically about the criminal justice system, and consider that most of us have broken the law, but we haven’t been caught.
“One in four Americans have a criminal record. And it can sentence you to a lifetime of blockades,” she said.
Using videos and pictures, the presentation challenges the perception of crime and criminality, and shares the message that we are more than our mistakes.
Another point she shared was that it’s not about taking away punishment. Instead, she hopes for a future where consequences can be created that are equitable, and hold people accountable.
Students said they were intrigued with the title, and were glad they came.
She hopes that people will stay horrified, stay hopeful, and see people.
Baxter will be presenting at all the campuses this week.
