What do moms, step-moms and grandmas want for Mother’s Day?
With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend, it can be difficult finding the perfect gift, or a fun surprise. So how can we show our moms, stepmoms, mother-in-laws and our grandmothers we care about them? The answer isn’t as simple as buying flowers or jewelry, it’s less but a little more valuable.
Brooke Lunksi recently moved to Duluth with her two kids. She says she and her kids love bird watching together.
“When they’re with you, you get overwhelmed, you get overstimulated. You’re like, ‘I just need a break,’ but as soon as they step away or they go to daycare, they go to sleep, you just miss them terribly,” Lunksi said. “We’ve taken my daughter out birding and we’ve gotten her, her own binoculars. So she’s almost three. So it’s like her favorite thing is to take her binoculars up and look for birds in the yard. It’s really adorable.”
Children are of course also thinking about what to give to their mom. Armella Lane from the Duluth Children’s Museum, is showing kids how to arrange flowers in a bouquet.
“Every time when a parent receives a gift from their child, it doesn’t matter if it looks good, if it’s aesthetically pleasing. It’s just that they made it and they’re so proud of it,” Lane said. “That is my favorite part is getting to see that like kids face it when they’re proud of something.”
It’s not just moms people are thinking about this Mother’s day. Stepmoms, mother-in-laws and even grandmothers are also on our list. But Elyna Nylund and Debbie Pederson couldn’t agree on what gift would make them smile.
“Cookbook! “A hug and a kiss.” “No! I say a cookbook!” Nylund and Pederson said. “A hug and a kiss. That’s all they ask for. Just remember them. A hug and a kiss is most important.”
So how can we show our moms, stepmoms, mother-in-laws and our grandmothers we care about them? All the mothers we spoke with said the best gift for Mother’s Day is spending time with them.
But if you’re still having trouble wondering on what to do for Mother’s Day weekend? The Minnesota DNR says moms can go fishing for free without a license on Mother’s Day. Also for more stories about Mother’s Day weekend you can read more here.
