Wisconsin voters head to the polls for spring election

Local news, sports, weather presented by the WDIO News Team

On April 1, voters across Wisconsin will head to the polls for the 2025 spring general election, deciding on several races.

One of the statewide races getting national attention is for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court between GOP-supported Judge Brad Schimel, and Democratic-backed Judge Susan Crawford. The contest is noteworthy for having become one of the most expensive judicial races in American history, with both candidates getting millions of dollars of campaign contributions from out-of-state donors.

Voters will also decide who they want to head the state school system, choosing between incumbent Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin Jill Underly, or her challenger Brittany Kinser.

Wisconsinites will also be asked if they want to change the state constitution. A referendum is asking whether voter ID laws, already on the books in Wisconsin, should be enshrined in the state constitution or not. Supporters of these laws say they help bolster election security, while critics worry they disenfranchise voters.

In addition to these statewide contests, dozens of local races will be decided for things like school referendums, as well as positions such as school board members or city councilors. These will vary depending on where voters live.

Wisconsinites can find their polling place, registration status, and view sample ballots on myvote.wi.gov.

WDIO will be tracking results of the race as they come in.
