Fire near Biwabik destroys cabin at Camp Esquagama Thursday

Two wildland fires cause damage on Thursday

A fire destroyed a cabin and damaged another at Camp Esquagama just south of Biwabik Thursday evening.

A wildland fire near Biwabik caused property damage Thursday evening.

The Northland Fire Wire says one cabin was destroyed, as was a shed, and another cabin was damaged.

Seven Iron Range fire departments battled a wildfire in the Camp Esquagama area south of Biwabik.

The Biwabik Township fire chief told the Fire Wire a blaze was reported at 6:50 off Camp Road and crews were still mopping up after the sun went down. There were no injuries reported.

There was also a fire on Thursday afternoon in Kelsey township on the Kacer road.

The Northland firewire says this fire was reported around 1:00 Thursday afternoon. Crews from the Cotton and Kelsey fire departments along with the Minnesota DNR battled that fire using three aircraft and three tracked vehicles.

It’s reported that over 80 acres burned there south of the Sax-Zim bog.
